W.B. Yeats: Exploring Anxieties around Fairies in his play “The Land of Heart’s Desire” (1912).

The lecture will be given by Kelley Hester, a current Master of Research Student (Psychology) at the Atlantic Technological University (Formerly IT Sligo). From a young age, with a discontent for the ordinary, W.B. Yeats diverted in philosophical and
supernatural thought, themes which saturate his lifelong works. Yeats’ anxieties regarding the
unpleasantness of existing in this world, is famously written in the poem The Stolen Child.

While unpacking some of the anxieties concerning the fairies
within the Irish community, Kelley will discuss how the play also reflects on the man who found freedom
in complete abandonment.
