Friday 12th November at 8pm – Professor (Emeritus) Michael O’Connell will give a lecture entitled: “The horizontal mill at Kilbegly (M6 motorway): advanced technology in medieval Roscommon”.  
Michael having studied and researched at UCD, has spent most of his working life at NUI Galway (formerly UCG). As Professor emeritus at NUIG, he continues to pursue research interests in long-term environmental change with particular focus on farming impact, woodland history and climate change, using a variety of techniques and especially pollen analysis. His research in Ireland relates mainly to the western counties of Ireland (mainly Cork to Sligo).
