Dr. Micheline Sheehy Skeffington will be speaking about “Francis & Hanna Sheehy Skeffington – their role in early 20th century Ireland”.

Dr. Micheline Sheehy Skeffington will speak about the valuable role her grandparents, Hanna and Francis Sheehy Skeffington,  made to Irish society in early 20th century. Both Hanna and Francis were active in the early 20th century campaigning for women’s suffrage and for an independent socialist Ireland. After the killing of Francis, a militant pacifist, at the hands of Captain Bowen Colthurst in 1916 Hanna began a speaking tour around America speaking against conscription and meeting with important political figures of the day, including US President Woodrow Wilson.
